Schönbrunn Palace Opening Hours

Daily opening hours for Schönbrunn Palace, gardens, and attractions. Includes seasonal changes & holidays.

The Schönbrunn Palace interior is open every day of the year except 24 December afternoon; closing time shifts with the season and the gardens stay open from sunrise to sunset regardless. The Gloriette terrace, the Maze and Labyrinth, the Privy Garden, the Crown Prince Garden, the Palm House and the Tiergarten zoo each run their own seasonal calendars. See our best time to visit page for quieter slots and the visitors guide for what to do once you arrive.

Opening Hours FAQ

Hours, holidays, and last admission

Is Schönbrunn Palace open every day?
Yes — the palace is open 365 days a year, including Christmas Day, New Year's Day and every Austrian public holiday. Only 24 December has shortened hours (closes 2:00 PM, last admission 1:00 PM). The gardens are likewise open every day of the year.
What time is the last admission?
One hour before closing for the palace state rooms. In summer (July–August) that means last admission at 5:30 PM; in winter (Nov–Mar) last admission at 4:00 PM. The Gloriette terrace stops admitting visitors 30 minutes before closing.
When do winter hours start and end?
Winter hours run from 3 November to 26 March — palace open 09:00 to 17:00. Gloriette, Maze, Labyrinth and the Privy Garden close for the season. The Café Gloriette remains open on weekends and during Advent. The Christmas Market opens in the Ehrenhof courtyard from mid-November.
Are the gardens open after dark?
The gardens close at sunset — that means roughly 5:00 PM in December and 9:00 PM in June. Sunset times follow the natural calendar. After dark the gates are locked, although the courtyard outside the main gate remains accessible all night.
What about Christmas and New Year's Day?
Open both days. On 24 December the palace closes at 2:00 PM (last admission 1:00 PM); on 25 December and 1 January normal winter hours apply (9:00 AM – 5:00 PM). The Christmas Market in the Ehrenhof courtyard runs from mid-November to 4 January with extended evening hours until 10:00 PM.
Can I visit the gift shop without a palace ticket?
Yes — the museum shop in the Ehrenhof courtyard and the boutique at the Café Residenz are both accessible without a ticket. Same opening hours as the palace.
How long can I stay inside once I've entered?
As long as you like, up to closing time. The 30-minute slot governs entry only, not your visit length — though the one-way route through the state rooms means most visitors complete the Grand Tour in 90 to 120 minutes.
